The Evolution of Forces by Dr. Gustave Le Bon

The Evolution of Forces
by Dr. Gustave Le Bon

Dr. Gustave Le Bon is the author of the book "The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind" 1896. "The Crowd" is still one of the best books ever written on crowd behavior and is often cited in current crowd studies. "The Evolution of Forces" marks Dr. Gustave's new found passion for the physical sciences and illustrates his endless curiosity of discovering how our world works.

Book Description: D. Appleton And Company, New York, 1908. Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. The New Doctrines, Book II: The Irreducible Magnitudes of the Universe, Chapter I: Time, Space, Matter, and Force, Chapter II: The Great Constants of the Universe: Resistance and Movement, Chapter III: The Building-Up of Forces and the Mechanical Explanations of the Universe, Book III: The Dogma of the Indestructibility of Energy, Chapter I: The Monistic Conception of Forces and the Theory of the Conservation of Energy, Chapter II: The Energetical Explanation of Phenomena, Chapter III: The Degradation of Energy and Potential Energy, Book IV: The New Conception of Forces, Chapter I: The Individualization of Forces and the Supposed Transformations of Energy, Chapter II: The Changes of Equilibria of Matter and the Ether Origin of Forces, Chapter III: The Evolution of the Cosmos-Origin Matter and Universal Forces, Chapter IV: The Vanishing of Energy and End of Our Universe, Part II: The Problems with our Physics, Book I: The Genesis of Current Ideas on Relations of Electricity and Matter, Chapter II: The Transformation of Matter into Electricity, Chapter III: The Problems of Magnetism, Magnetic Induction and Lines of Force, Chapter IV: The Electric Waves, Chapter V: The Transparency of Matter to Electric Waves, Chapter VI: The Different Forms of Electricity and Their Origin, Book II: The Problems of Heating and Light, Chapter I: The Problems of Heat, Chapter II: Transformation of Material Movements into Ethereal Vibrations and Radiant Heat, Chapter III: Transformation of Matter into Light, Chapter IV: The Dematerialization of Matter by Light, Book III: The Problems of Phosphorescence, Chapter I: Phosphorescence Produced by Light, Chapter II: Phosphorescence Produced by Heat, Chapter III: Phosphorescence from Other Causes Then Above, Chapter IV: The Causes of Phosphorescence, Book IV: Black Light, Chapter I: Invisible Phosphorescence, Chapter II: The Infra-Red Rays and Photography Through Opaque Bodies, Chapter III: The Part Played by the Various Luminous Radiations in Vital Phenomena, Chapter IV: The Antagonistic Properties of Some Regions of the Spectrum, Book V: Forces of Unknown Origin and Hidden Forces, Chapter I: Universal Gravitation and Hidden Forces, Chapter II: The Molecular and Intra-Atomic Forces, Chapter III: The Forces Manifested by Living Beings, Index of Subjects, Index of Names. -- Although Dr. Le Bon will likely best be known for his writings on the pyschology of social behavior (The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind, 1896) this rare 1908 title exemplifies his broad interest in science but with a very interesting twist. Dr. Le Bon's perspective is quite different given his social science background where the study of subjects with rather vague outlines and uncertain conclusions left questions. With "The Evolution of Forces," we can see that Dr. Le Bon is struck by the clearness of the definitions, the exactness of the demonstrations, and the precision of the experiments in the "Physical Sciences." This is a VERY SCARCE edition (English) of this Le Bon Title, 388 Pages, Collectible.
