The Making of a Stockbroker

The Making of a Stockbroker
by Edwin Lefevre

Book Description:
Doubleday & Company, Inc. for Spear & Staff, Babson Park, MA, 1949. Hardcover. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Hardcover, Tan cloth boards with gilt title (faded) to spine, 1949, (originally published 1924).

Book Condition:
Very Good, spine faded, light soil to boards, corners bumped, general shelfwear, spine straight, binding intact, light tanning to end papers and pages otherwise free of marks. No dust jacket.

Contents:
First published in 1924, this book is dedicated to John Wing Prentiss, a new breed of stockbroker of that era. This fictionalized version of the other side of Wall Street covers the story of a brokerage firm from its founding through 1924 and shows how the stockbroker works from the inside and what he did to make millions without whitewashing and propaganda. This is a good teacher in a personal form where you learn a lot more about human nature and business after the age of the buccaneer but still before the great depression and security regulations which followed. (Lefevre is, of course, the author of the greatest book on trading of all time "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator" which was first published in 1923).

About the Author: Born in Rochester, New York, October 21, 1859, Arthur Edward Stilwell, with only a fourth grade education, (due to poor childhood health) formed over forty companies, and was responsible for the laying of 2,300 miles of railway in America, in the 1890's and early 1900's. When twelve, he told his grandfather, Hamblin Stilwell, a builder of the Erie Canal, "I am going West and build a railroad." When only twenty-seven, and married, he quit The Traveler's Insurance Co, where he was in line to become president, and headed west. He considered Kansas City his home, doing much community service there. In Kansas City he organized the Belt Line, and later the Kansas City, Pittsburg & Gulf Railroad, now the Kansas City Southern. Since he was so young, he agreed to not be its first president, but he ran it. He was president only from 1897 to 1900. In his retirement I wrote numerous books, poems, plays and hymns.

On Managing Yourself

On Managing Yourself

by Dr. Mario F. Conforti

This is a 4 page psychology-based paper written by Dr. Conforti in the 1960's that highlights the importance of a positive self-concept as it relates to effectiveness.

Although there is no date, I assume it's 1960's as I was able to confirm he worked at Autonetics in 1966.

I decided to provide this paper free of charge not only because it's only a short 4 page REPRINT, but because I belief the nuggets of information here are too frequently over looked by traders and I want to make it available to ALL.

There have been hundreds if not thousands of self-help books based on Neuro-lingustic programming, but what I really like about Dr. Conforti's paper is that he's presented an explanation AND action items for behaviorally change in a clean, concise 4 pages.

I can't imagine any trader having sustainable success until these principals are understood and practiced. I believe them to be the most important foundation of trading giving those who fully understand self-programming the ability to make the right "entry and exit" decisions (based on following rules) on a consistent basis.

You can VIEW and/or DOWNLOAD the complete document by clicking here.

About the author:
Dr. Mario F. Conforti was a psychologist and lecturer who worked as a Management Training Specialist at Autonetics, A Division of North American Aviation in the 1960's.

He was later associated with the Western CUNA (Credit Union National Association) Management School in Pomona, CA. As a side note, during Mr. Conforti’s involvement at WCMS he instilled in the students a deep sense of personal worth and the wisdom to recognize that others also have a similar personal worth. He used the fable of the Prince and the Frog to make his point; he taught his students how to care about themselves and that it is ok to show others we care about them. It was through his influence the FROG became the mascot of the School.

by The Investment Centre

Book Description: The Investment Centre, Los Angeles. No Binding. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Loose Pages, 8.5" x 11" white paper with black title and text, 30 pages, no exact publishing date but assumed early 1980s.

Very good, no marks, no rips, no tears - loose pages, no binding.

Contents: This bibliography was produced by the Los Angeles bookstore "The Investment Centre" in the 1980s. The bookstore was then owned by Don Mack and Dr. Jerome Baumring. Both Mack and Baumring had a passion for collecting books on the financial markets and over the years they did build one of the largest and most complete collections in the world. To assist them in their hunt, they found it necessary to construct their own "Bibliography" of Wall Street and the Stock Market since no one prior had ever seen the need. It does not list ALL the books ever published as this is probably a near impossibility, however the 1500 works listed here do represent the great majority of these books. Despite technological search advances and the internet, this can be an invaluable tool for today's modern collector of this genre. 30 pages.
