Author examines the relationship between the make up of market participants to the performance of the market. Published in 1977, Smith focuses on the erratic market behavior of 1970-1974 and questions the market's future performance based on the demographic makeup of market participants and their willingness to re-enter the market. This has some interesting insights as we look back at the last ten years of the market (1998 to 2008) and see what affect easy access to cheap money had on the markets. Will the lack of access to money affect the make up of participants in the future? 71 pages.
